How families actually choose a music teacher

Most private teachers get pupils through word of mouth, a school noticeboard or a recommendation in a local parents group. What happens next is predictable: the parent looks you up. If they find nothing, or an old listing with the wrong phone number, the recommendation loses a lot of its weight.

What they are hoping to see is fairly simple. Which instruments you teach, whether you take beginners and what ages, where lessons happen, what a term costs, and whether you prepare pupils for graded exams if that matters to them. Parents of younger children will also look for your safeguarding arrangements, such as a DBS check.

Adult learners read differently. Many are returning to an instrument after years away, or starting from nothing, and want reassurance that lessons will be relaxed. A good site speaks to both groups. We build it, host it and make your changes each term.

The pages

Pages that suit a music teacher

Your site is designed around your teaching, and these are the pages most music teachers find useful.

  • Lessons

Instruments and styles you teach, the ages and levels you take, and whether lessons are at your home, the pupil's home, a school or online.

  • Exams and progress

If you prepare pupils for graded exams, say which ones and how that fits alongside simply enjoying playing. Leave it out if exams are not part of how you teach.

  • Fees and terms

Lesson lengths, prices, whether you charge per lesson or per term, and your policy on missed lessons and holidays. Clear terms avoid awkward conversations with parents.

  • About you

Your own training and playing background, how long you have taught, and your DBS and insurance details stated accurately.

  • Contact

A short form asking for the instrument, the pupil's age and level, and when they are free, so you can reply with something useful.

Details we get right for music teachers

  • Term by term updates

Fees change in September, slots open up after exam season. Send us the changes when they happen and we update the site, so parents always see the current picture.

  • Photos of your teaching

Pictures of your teaching room or a pupil concert, sent by you and with the right permissions, help people picture lessons with you.

  • Careful with children's details

Contact forms ask only what you need to reply. We do not add anything that encourages parents to share more about their child than is necessary.

  • Found by nearby families

Parents search for piano, guitar or singing lessons near home. The site is built with search foundations in place and we help set up your Google Business Profile.

Questions from music teachers

What is covered by the £50 a month?

Design and build, your domain name, hosting, an SSL certificate, a business email address and ongoing text and image changes. There is no setup fee.

Can I show that I am DBS checked?

Yes. We add your DBS, insurance and qualification details exactly as you give them to us, and update them when they are renewed.

I teach several instruments. Can each have its own page?

Yes. We plan the structure with you, giving an instrument its own page or grouping instruments where that reads better.

Can parents book a trial lesson online?

The site includes a contact form. If you also use the Kabooly CRM, we can add its booking widget so parents can choose a time and get an email confirmation.

What if I want to stop?

There is no long contract. You can cancel with 30 days notice.
