Why decorators end up with feast or famine

Most painting and decorating work comes from word of mouth and people asking on local groups for a recommendation. That is great when it flows, but it leaves you with a packed spring and a quiet patch you did not see coming.

Posting regularly on Nextdoor and Facebook keeps your name in front of homeowners before they need you, so when someone is finally ready to sort the hallway they already know who to call. The hard part is finding the words after a day on the ladders.

Kabooly Marketing does the writing and the design. It suggests something to advertise based on the services in your profile, writes it in the way you talk, and makes images in your colours with your logo on.

What makes a decorator's advert work

  • Be clear about where you cover

Homeowners want someone local. Put your area in your profile and it goes into the advert text, so people can see straight away that you work near them.

  • Use your own photos where you can

The images are designed by AI in your brand colours, which works well for announcements and offers. When you want to show finished rooms, post your own photos of real jobs alongside the advert text.

  • Keep it plain and friendly

Set your tone towards casual and the adverts read like a decorator talking, not a corporate leaflet. You can still edit any sentence before posting.

  • Only mention what you do

If you do not take on plastering or commercial jobs, leave them out of your services list. The adverts are written from that list.

Questions from decorators

Is Nextdoor worth it for a decorator?

Nextdoor is built around neighbourhoods, which suits a trade that works within a set area. Tick it alongside Facebook and you get a square image sized for Nextdoor and a landscape one for Facebook.

Can it show photos of my actual work?

The images it makes are generated by AI using your logo and colours, not photos of your jobs. You can post your own before and after photos yourself with the advert text if you prefer.

I am not good with computers. Is it complicated?

You fill in your business profile once. After that you accept a topic, press to create, then copy the text and download the images. There is nothing else to set up.

Does it post to my pages for me?

No. You post each advert yourself, so you decide when and where it goes. Everything you make is kept in your library.

What does it cost?

£40 a month, which covers up to 20 images in any rolling 24 hours.
