Tags, stages and contact properties

Admins set these up; everyone can use them.
Tags
Tags are labels for grouping contacts, such as their industry, how they found you or whether they are a customer yet.
- Go to Settings → Manage Tags.
- Enter a name, choose a colour and click Create Tag.
A contact can have any number of tags. Use them to filter contacts, build dynamic marketing lists and start or filter automations. A tag cannot be renamed: check where it is used, delete it and create the new one.
Stages
Stages are the steps your contacts and deals move through, such as Proposal and Negotiation.
- Go to Settings → Manage Stages.
- Enter a name, choose a colour and create the stage.
- Drag the stages into the order you work through them. That order is used in every stage drop-down and in the Pipeline by Stage report.
Edit a stage with its pencil. Before deleting one, check where it is used.
Contact properties
A contact property is a question you define once, such as French level with the answers Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, so the answer lands in the same place whether it came from your website form or a Facebook lead ad. To set one up:
- Go to Settings → Contact Properties and click New Property.
- Name it, choose Drop-down (a list of answers) or Text (any answer), and add the answers.
- In the form builder, set the field’s Map to Contact Property to it; a drop-down field takes the property’s answers.
- On Integrations → Facebook Lead Ads, pick the Facebook question for it and match each Facebook answer to one of yours.
Answers show under Contact Properties on the contact page, and you can filter contacts, build dynamic lists and run Custom Field Attribution on them. When someone answers again, their newest answer replaces the old one; a blank answer never clears one. A property that a form or Facebook Lead Ads still uses cannot be deleted. Deleting one moves its answers into the contact’s custom fields.
